How ranking works

How this page ranks schools

This table ranks grammar and private schools by the share of A-level entries awarded A*-B

Schools are ordered directly by the latest verified share of A-level entries awarded A*-B.

This page uses one sixth-form grade measure:

What To Keep In Mind

The grade measure is shared, while sixth-form entry rules, fees and subject offers differ by school.

Before saving a school, check sixth-form entry requirements and the subjects your child may take.

How to read this page

Shared academic measures, different application systems

The order uses final DfE grade counts across all GCE A-level subjects and requires at least 20 entries for a DfE-derived result. It does not combine A-level grades with inspection or admissions data.

Grammar sixth-form entry is state-funded; private schools charge fees and manage applications directly.

The table does not account for subject mix, IB provision, entry requirements, fees or financial aid.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are the A-level measures comparable across sectors?

The same DfE definitions are used for every school included in the table.

Does the ranking include IB results?

No. It uses GCE A-level grade counts only, so schools with a substantial IB or vocational programme need separate comparison.

Does a higher result rank mean easier sixth-form entry?

No. Entry requirements and application processes must be checked separately for each school.
