Derby High School's fully co-educational Senior School grew from the arrival of boys in Years 7 and 12 in 2019. The Hillsway setting now serves pupils from age 3 to 18, with an 11-18 Senior School and Sixth Form and no boarding.
The Senior School builds a broad academic base before the Sixth Form opens into A Level choices. Year 7 includes English, mathematics, history, geography, French, separate sciences, art, music, drama, design technology, religious studies, PE, ICT and PSHE. Specialist teachers remain part of the experience throughout the senior years.
Sport, music, drama, science, photography and coding sit alongside subject trips and residential visits. House events connect year groups, while the Duke of Edinburgh's Award runs at Bronze, Silver and Gold. Form tutors, Heads of Year and the pastoral team provide the regular structure around classroom and co-curricular life.
Year 7 entry combines a visit with verbal and non-verbal reasoning, English and mathematics tests, an informal interview and a school reference. Later entry uses assessment papers, an interview and a taster day. Academic, music, art and design, drama, sport and Head's Scholarships are available alongside an Assisted Places scheme.
