Overview
Overview
South Eastern College opened in 1879 and took the name St Lawrence in 1906. Full co-education followed in 1983, while the Evangelical Christian foundation remained in place. Wartime evacuation and a long association with boarding are part of the College's history, giving the Ramsgate setting a strong sense of continuity.
High Performance Learning provides the academic frame, with the idea that performance can be taught and developed. GCSE, A-level and BTEC study sit alongside careers support, creative arts, sport, co-curricular activity and pastoral care. Day places and junior and senior boarding give families different ways to use the provision.
The route runs from Nursery and Pre-Prep through Sixth Form, with a theatre, library, sports provision and specialist spaces for science, art and design technology. Houses, music, drama, photography, trips and exchanges add movement to the week. The Ramsgate provision includes a Sixth Form and boarding for the registered 10 to 18 age range.
Merger discussions with Dover College were halted in March 2026, and St Lawrence's future was still under review at that point. That is an important operational caveat, but it is not a closure notice; admissions and the College's next chapter require direct confirmation before any decision.
