A 1556 endowment from Sir William Laxton placed Oundle School in a tradition that still connects it with the Worshipful Company of Grocers. That history now sits alongside a full-boarding ethos, day places and a sixth form, with houses giving pupils smaller pastoral communities inside the larger co-educational setting.
At 11+, a bespoke curriculum makes room for core subjects, creative work, sport, reading and Electives. Omnia, the Saturday programme for the First and Second Forms, extends the week through curiosity, independence and character-building activity rather than simply adding more examination preparation. Older pupils move towards GCSE, A level and sixth-form study within the same broad academic culture.
Oundle organises life beyond lessons around Leadership, Adventure and Service, and Creativity and Culture. Sport, music, drama, societies, lectures and the Combined Cadet Force give those strands practical form, while day pupils take part in the same programme as boarders. Entry is offered at 11+, 13+ and 16+, with academic selection, scholarships from 13+ and 16+ and means-tested bursaries for boarding and day pupils forming part of the admissions picture.
