The Latymer School is a co-educational selective grammar in Edmonton, North London, with about 1,374 pupils and roots stretching back to Edward Latymer's 1624 bequest to educate children in the area. Its motto, Qui Patitur Vincit, is usually rendered by the school as "Who endeavours wins", and that mix of old foundation and modern inclusive grammar is central to the school's identity.
Latymer's academic life is broad and demanding, with languages, STEM, humanities, arts, physical education, library provision and a sizeable sixth form. The co-curricular offer is one of its clearest strengths: around 50 clubs and societies run across the school, many student-led, alongside music, drama, sport, trips, activities and a traditional house system.
Year 7 admission is for 192 places and is limited to applicants living in the published Inner Area. Candidates sit mathematics, verbal reasoning and English; the first two are GL multiple-choice assessments and the English paper is school-set. Allocation is score-led, with published priority routes for looked-after children, Pupil Premium applicants and music aptitude.
Latymer is best read as a high-performing North London grammar with a strong foundation story and a very active student culture. Public measures record Ofsted Good, high Progress 8, 99% grade 5+ in English and maths, and a particularly strong sixth-form AAB figure.
