Overview

A Royal Charter in 1829 gave King's College School its formal beginning; Mind, Spirit and Heart remain the three words around which its purpose is framed. Boys join from age 7 to 18 and girls from 16 to 18, with no boarding, on the Southside site beside Wimbledon Common.

The academic journey runs through lower and middle school before Sixth Form. Students can take A levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma, so the final years support two distinct routes. Sport, music, drama, the CCF, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, clubs, societies, activities and visits fill out the senior programme, while the Wimbledon Independent State-Schools Partnership links the school with local state-school partners.

Admission is direct and selective. At 11+, applicants take competitive tests and interviews in Year 6, and a candidate cannot apply through both the 11+ and 13+ routes. Girls already enter the Lower Sixth at 16+. The timetable places mixed Year 7 entry in September 2033 and full co-education in 2037, making the present sixth-form arrangement part of a longer transition.
