Overview

A free-school foundation in 1675 gives Reigate Grammar School a long history, but its present independent chapter began in 1976 after a period under Surrey County Council. Girls entered the Sixth Form that year, and the whole school became co-educational in 1993. Its grammar-school heritage now belongs to an independent model rather than a state-selective route.

GCSE study begins in the Third Form, or Year 9, leaving more time for subject exploration before examinations. The senior programme includes PSHEE, weekly PE and an Electives programme. Sixth Form students usually take three A levels, with BTEC courses, EPQ and tailored four-A-level combinations also supported. Senior MUN and TSI Friday extend discussion beyond lessons.

The main entry points are 11+, 13+ and 16+. Applicants from outside the junior schools sit English, Mathematics and Reasoning assessments, with interviews at relevant stages. Academic scholarship consideration is part of the entrance process; music, sport and creative scholarships use separate forms, while bursaries follow their own timetable. Sixth Form students continue to receive academic support.
