Hymers College grew from a boys' school founded in 1893 into a co-educational community in 1989, and its three-stage structure now carries pupils from the junior years through the senior school and sixth form. That long transition gives the place a distinctive shape: one institution, but with a history that is visible in the way its age groups and later choices fit together.
In Years 7 and 8, pupils meet STEM, languages, humanities, creative subjects, games and PSHE before Year 9 opens a wider range of choices. GCSE study keeps English, mathematics and science at its core while adding routes such as computer science, business, Latin, drama, music and physical education. Science laboratories and an all-weather sports pitch support a timetable that is both academic and active.
More than 100 clubs and societies, careers support and the move into sixth-form study add breadth beyond lessons. Entry can begin at Pre-School, Reception, Year 3, Year 7 or Year 12, with other years considered when places exist. Families can visit and apply directly, while academically gifted pupils from Year 7 may be considered for a fee-remission bursary when full fees are not manageable.
