Overview

Cokethorpe began in 1957 as a boarding school for boys aged 13 to 18, founded by Dr Francis Brown. The Prep School followed in 1994 and boarding ended in 2003. It is now a co-educational day school from age 4 to 18, with senior and junior stages sharing 150 acres of parkland near Witney.

Academic work combines subject teaching with research, technology and enrichment. Cokethorpe's Microsoft Showcase status reflects the place of digital learning in the programme, but technology sits alongside classroom discussion, practical work and the foundations built in the Prep years. Pupils can continue through to the Sixth Form within the same broad community.

There is a substantial choice of activity beyond lessons. The Prep programme offers more than 35 activities each term and the Senior School more than 100, including drama, sport, music, outdoor education, clubs and societies. Those opportunities give an all-through day school a shared rhythm while allowing younger and older pupils to follow interests suited to their stage.

Admissions vary by year group. Families can attend an Open Morning, Meet the Head event or personal tour before registering, with the relevant assessment and entry requirements following from the intended stage. Scholarships, awards and means-tested bursaries form part of the wider admissions picture, including support for families who could not meet the full fees without assistance.
