Cross-year House life is central to Bishop's Stortford College. Pre-Prep, Prep, Senior School and Sixth Form are linked across a co-educational day-and-boarding community for ages 3 to 18 in Hertfordshire. Older pupils mentor younger ones, help in the Pre-Prep and perform in concerts, so the all-through structure has a social purpose as well as an administrative one.
Learning begins broadly before becoming more specialised. Year 9 includes English, mathematics, the sciences, humanities, computing, a modern language, art, religious education and PSHE, with options such as design technology, music, drama, Latin and a second language. The Sixth Form offers 24 subjects across sciences, mathematics, classics, languages, politics, art and drama, giving pupils a wide set of academic directions at 16.
Day pupils and boarders share Houses, activities, games and service. Full, weekly and flexi boarding are available, with resident staff and visiting tutors supporting a residential community designed to function as a secure second home. That mix of boarding patterns allows families to choose how much of the College's routine happens on site while keeping pupils within the same wider House culture.
Admissions are academically selective and staged. Usual Senior School entry is at 13+ or 16+, with assessment and interview; boarding routes can include English, mathematics and reasoning tests, plus ESOL assessment where needed.
