Overview

Opening in 1868, Trent College has grown into the senior partner in the Trent Schools organisation, alongside The Elms. Boys and girls can follow day or boarding education from age 3 to 19, with a sixth form giving the older years a distinct academic and social centre. Music, sport and drama remain visible parts of college life rather than marginal additions.

Boarding comes in full, weekly and flexi patterns. Weekly boarders stay for five or six nights, while flexi boarders use the houses for three or four nights. Evenings include supervised prep with teaching staff available, and the residential programme adds activities, excursions and routines for pupils living on site.

Admissions begin with registration and a reference from the current setting. Year 7 applicants attend a group Discovery Day, while older applicants can have a bespoke taster day with lessons, lunch, an entrance assessment and interview. An overnight stay can be arranged for pupils considering boarding, making it possible to test the residential routine before committing to it.

Trent's 2025 results include 41% of GCSE entries at grade 7 or above and 68% of A level entries at A* to B. Those figures sit within a broader picture of a long age range, several boarding patterns, a defined Sixth Form and a co-curricular life built around music, sport and drama.
