Colfe's School

Colfe's carries a history that reaches from John Glyn's foundation in 1574 to Abraham Colfe's refounding in 1652. The Leathersellers' Company became trustee after Colfe's death; the school became independent in 1977 and fully co-educational in 1999, when girls joined the Senior School from Year 7. Junior, senior and Sixth Form education now share one school community.

Teaching runs from the early years to the Sixth Form through a knowledge-rich curriculum led by subject specialists. Classics, Computer Science, English, mathematics, Modern Languages and Science sit alongside critical thinking, oracy, reflection and metacognitive study skills. Examination preparation is part of a wider academic habit rather than the whole description of school life.

The co-curricular character is substantial. Music, drama, debating, coding, sport, clubs, societies and outdoor education sit alongside dedicated arts spaces in the Beardwood Arts Centre, including a theatre, recital hall, dance studio and visual-arts facilities. Newer buildings support Sixth Form study and Learning Support.

Colfe's is academically selective, with direct applications for early years, junior entry, Year 7 and Year 12. The admissions policy refers to a recent report, a reference where appropriate and an entry assessment. Scholarships, bursaries and the means-tested Leatherseller Scholarship Programme form part of the route for eligible applicants.
