Alleyn's School

Edward Alleyn’s charitable foundation is still present in the identity of Alleyn’s, whose history includes separation from the College of God’s Gift in 1882, the move to Townley Road in 1887 and the arrival of co-education in 1976. The Senior School now sits within a wider journey that also includes Alleyn’s Junior School and Alleyn’s Oakfield, serving pupils from four to eighteen.

The Sixth Form is built around choice. Students can shape an Upper School pathway without fixed subject columns, combining taught courses with academic enrichment, independent study and community partnerships. That flexibility suits a senior phase in which students are expected to take increasing responsibility for the direction and pace of their work.

The 26-acre Dulwich site brings together buildings dating from 1889 to 2023, with halls, classrooms, sports facilities and performance spaces. A clubhouse and sports ground sit a short walk from the main campus. The result is an estate with both historic and recent elements, giving a long-established London day school a setting that has continued to develop rather than remaining a single-period campus.

Senior entry is organised around 11+ and 16+ routes, with separate information on fees, financial help and scholarships. Shared policies connect the Senior School with the two junior schools, while the precise assessment and application requirements sit in the relevant entry guidance. Alleyn’s therefore combines charitable foundations, an evolving campus and a sixth-form model that leaves meaningful room for individual academic choice.
