Overview

"Bright, Balanced and Bold" captures the former character of Alderley Edge School for Girls. Before closure, girls moved from nursery to Sixth Form through a day-school model combining academic ambition, personal growth, independent thinking, forest school, sport and more than 40 extra-curricular clubs. This is a historical portrait, not a current admissions destination.

The Senior School curriculum ranged from English, mathematics, science, history and modern languages to computer science, design technology, drama, music, food and nutrition, religious studies and sport. Sixth Form students could choose from more than 20 A-levels and the AQA Extended Project Qualification, supported by small classes and guidance for university, competitive courses and apprenticeships.

Several entry points structured the former all-through journey. Selective 11+ assessment combined mathematics, English and verbal reasoning with a school reference, the latest report and an interview; Years 8 to 11 used mathematics, English and creative writing. Early-years, Reception and Sixth Form entry also formed part of the old pathway.

Closure was announced in June 2026 for the end of the 2025/26 academic year. The school is closed to pupils for the summer, and from 1 September 2026 remaining staff are limited to essential closure work plus general, examination-results and financial enquiries. Its academic and pastoral offer now belongs to a completed chapter.
