Overview

Founded in 1875 after concern about the limited number of endowed schools for girls, Haberdashers' Girls' School has moved from Hoxton to Acton and then to its present Elstree setting. It now shares a 100-acre campus with Habs Boys while retaining its own girls' junior, senior and sixth-form community. The all-through route is a day-school model for girls aged 4 to 18, without boarding.

The Senior School curriculum is ambitious, active and flexible. Students study a core range through Years 7 to 11, take a language in Year 7, can add another in Year 8 and may choose up to four optional GCSE subjects. Sixth Form students choose from 22 A level subjects. Practical work, discussion, debate, independent investigation, PSHE and citizenship education sit alongside shared academic work with Habs Boys.

More than 160 clubs and societies run at lunchtimes, after school and at weekends. Choirs, bands, orchestras, performance, sport, outdoor education, Combined Cadet Force, community engagement and Duke of Edinburgh awards give the week a wide rhythm. Form time, assemblies, charity support and student leadership add a pastoral and civic dimension to the girls' experience.
