Founded by David Holbache and Guinevere in 1407, Oswestry School carries a history that reaches deep into the town's past. The community became co-educational in 1971 and all-through in 1978, and now brings together pupils from age 4 to 19 on a 50-acre campus near the Welsh border. Day places, boarding and a sixth form sit within that long-running identity.
The senior years combine a broad foundation with GCSE and A level routes across core subjects, humanities, languages, technology and creative arts. Debate, drama, coding and trips add practical and cultural breadth to classroom work, while small classes and dedicated teaching are part of the academic experience. Guinevere, School and Holbache houses support occasional, weekly and full boarding, with day pupils sharing the same wider community.
Entry is concentrated at ages 4, 11, 13 and 16, although other year groups may be considered when places exist; boarding is available from age 10. In April 2024, regulatory standards were met and the residential community was described as well organised, with day pupils and boarders learning together. That combination of continuity, all-through provision and flexible boarding gives Oswestry a distinctive rhythm.
