Chorister education is the thread running through Lichfield Cathedral School's long history. Its roots reach to a School of Song and Grammar associated with St Chad, with documentary evidence from 1191. Refounded as St Chad's in 1942, it became co-educational in 1974 and extended into secondary education in 2004.
The all-through curriculum runs from early years to Sixth Form, with younger pupils also taught at St John's Preparatory School in Longdon. English, mathematics, science, languages, history, music, drama, design technology, computing, PE, games and wellbeing share the timetable. Sixth Form pupils generally choose three A-level or BTEC subjects and may add the Extended Project Qualification.
Cathedral life enters the calendar through events such as the procession for St Chad, while the chorister tradition informs music and performance. Residential learning, sport and activities continue through the senior years.
