Continuous education beside Kimbolton Castle reaches back to 1600, giving Kimbolton School a historic setting with a long institutional memory. It became fully independent in 1976 and fully co-educational by 1983. The present 3-to-18 day-and-boarding route includes a sixth form, with boarding from age 11, so the experience is not confined to a standalone senior stage.
The senior curriculum includes English, mathematics, sciences, languages, history, geography, philosophy, religion and ethics, music, drama, art, design technology and PE. In the Third Form, Year 9 pupils choose two of art, design technology and food technology before GCSE. Sixth-form options include A levels, a Level 3 business qualification and the Extended Project Qualification, keeping academic and applied interests open after GCSEs.
