Overview

The King's School in Macclesfield traces its story to 1502 and was re-founded under a new charter in 1552. Girls joined the Sixth Form in 1986, the school became fully co-educational, and in 2020 the community moved to a purpose-built 80-acre campus at Prestbury. Infants and Juniors, Seniors and Sixth Form now share one continuous structure.

Key Stage 3 combines mathematics, English, science, humanities, computing, creative subjects and languages, with more choice towards GCSE. Sixth Form brings a wide subject range, small tutor groups and Preparation Pathways; Aspire supports students considering medicine, law and veterinary medicine. Music, drama, sport, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, clubs, trips and the House system extend the life of the campus.

Admissions are selective, with routes for Infants, Juniors, Senior School and Sixth Form. Year 7 is the main senior entry; later candidates sit age-appropriate examinations, attend interview and have a school reference requested. Sixth Form offers use GCSE results, interview and reference, and bursaries are available. The Prestbury school is co-educational, day-only and has no boarding.
