Overview

Abbey Gate College gives its younger and older pupils genuinely separate settings. The Infant and Junior School is at Aldford; the Senior School and Sixth Form occupy Saighton Grange, a Grade I listed building connected with a medieval monastic site. For pupils in the senior years, the historic Saighton surroundings are woven into the ordinary school day.

The senior curriculum is accompanied by sport, performing arts, clubs and other activities, with Sixth Form study continuing on the same campus. This is a co-educational day-school arrangement, without boarding, so the shared grounds and the journey to Saighton set the rhythm of the community.

An applicant to the Senior School is entering a different campus and phase from Aldford. The relevant questions concern the entry-year requirements, direct application and visit process, fees, and the travel pattern to Saighton. Continuity into the Sixth Form and the two-site structure are the durable features of the college's model.

Entrance details
For external Year 7 applicants, the school-run entrance process combines digitally completed verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial ability tests with written English, mathematics and an in-person interview. The school says the written component may be a short writing task or a comprehension exercise depending on the entry year. Assessments are based on Key Stage 2 work, and previous-school references and reports are also considered.
Admissions note
Senior School capacity is normally up to 66 pupils per year group. External applicants are considered on academic ability, previous-school references and reports, interview, and whether they are likely to thrive. Existing Abbey Gate Year 6 pupils normally transition without the entrance assessment if their progress is sufficient; they sit it if competing for an academic scholarship.
