Shiplake College

Shiplake Court gives Shiplake College a historic centre, while the present community is shaped by its 1959 foundation and its move to full co-education. Girls joined Year 7 from 2023, and the college now describes about 580 pupils aged 11 to 18 in a day and boarding community near Henley-on-Thames.

Thinking School is the academic idea that ties the curriculum together. Reflection, metacognition and independent-learning habits sit alongside discussion, questioning and subject expertise. The Lower School offers a broad exploratory programme before GCSE choices; the sixth form combines A Levels and BTEC options with supervised study and PULSE, a programme of personal understanding, learning skills and enrichment.

Boarding is available from Year 7 in full, weekly, part and flexi forms. Houses provide the setting for pastoral care, study and community life, supported by tutors, house staff, pastoral leaders, the chaplain, the medical wing and independent listeners. Changes to houses and accommodation reflect the continuing development of co-education.

Daily sport and dedicated activity sessions sit beside music, drama, outdoor education, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the Combined Cadet Force. Clubs range from climbing and design technology to debating and cookery. Main entry points are Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12, with assessments and interviews shaped by year group; separate arrangements cover boarding and international applicants.
