West Buckland School

West Buckland School brings pupils from age three to 18 into one day-and-boarding community in North Devon. Prep, middle, senior and sixth-form stages have their own demands, but pupils share the same school and the same rural surroundings as they move through them. Boys and girls can board from Year 5, while day pupils remain central to the community.

The academic programme combines traditional subjects with a wide post-16 choice. The Personalised Learning Department provides targeted support, and the Sixth Form offers more than 30 options, including CTEC and BTEC courses alongside A levels and other academic study. Careers work and residential opportunities give older pupils practical ways to connect study with life after school.

Boarding can be full, weekly, flexi or occasional. The middle-school house accommodates boys and girls aged eight to 16 in separate areas, and evenings and weekends can include swimming, art, singing, trips, surfing, coasteering and cooking. Residential life is therefore woven into the wider programme rather than treated as a separate experience.

Sport, creative work, outdoor education and visits make use of the school's proximity to Exmoor and the North Devon coast. These activities sit alongside classroom teaching and pastoral care, giving pupils opportunities to build confidence, pursue interests and take responsibility at each stage of an all-through education.
