Overview

John Colet's foundation in 1509 is only the beginning of St Paul's School's story. The present 45-acre community beside the River Thames gives bright, curious boys a liberal education through the junior years, senior school and Sixth Form, with high academic expectations joined to skills and values needed beyond school. Boarding belongs to the senior offer, although most pupils are day students.

Younger pupils study English, mathematics, science, French, geography, history, theology and philosophy alongside art, computing, drama, music, physical education and PSHE. Classical civilisation, engineering, Latin and classical Greek enter as boys progress. In the senior school and Sixth Form, specialist teaching, small groups and independent research prepare pupils for university-level study.

A long midday period makes room for sport, music, art, drama, societies, trips, volunteering and engineering projects on the campus. Eight senior Houses provide a continuing social structure, while the riverside setting gives ordinary school life a distinctive physical backdrop.

Personal tutors work with medical, counselling, learning-support, chaplaincy and safeguarding teams to support pupils through the demanding programme. Entry points are 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+, with examinations and interviews. Means-tested bursaries support boys who win places on academic merit, joining a historic foundation to a substantial day-school and boarding community.
