Overview

City of London Freemen’s School was founded by the City of London Corporation in 1854 as the Freemen’s Orphan School. It moved to Ashtead Park in 1926, when day pupils joined and the school became co-educational with day and boarding provision. Its City connections remain part of school life.

Freemen’s organises its curriculum around academic, pastoral, house and co-curricular pillars. Its 2026 pathway adds digital portfolios, more contact time, wider subject choice, Double Award Science and an additional GCSE option. Sixth-form pupils can take up to four A levels, with technology and AI included in the approach.

The Ashtead Park campus includes a 25-metre pool, astroturf, fitness suite, tennis courts, pitches, squash and an athletics track. Pupils take part in competitive sport, drama, outdoor theatre, choirs, orchestras, jazz and chamber music. Boarding is available from Years 9 to 13, and the Independent Living Suite supports Year 13 preparation for life beyond home.

The main entry points are Year 3, Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. Senior applicants may take ISEB Pre-Tests, English, mathematics and reasoning assessments, an activities day and an interview. Sixth-form entry uses predicted GCSE grades, a questionnaire, interview and school report, with applications made online.
