Founded by the Guild of the Holy Trinity in 1379, Wisbech Grammar School has been part of the town’s life for more than six centuries. Its present identity was shaped in 1970, when the Grammar School and Wisbech High School, established for girls in 1905, were amalgamated. The result is a co-educational school whose history belongs to both institutions.
The senior curriculum keeps science, languages, humanities, music, drama, technology, physical education and games in play before pupils settle on examination choices. Geography includes compulsory fieldwork and a residential trip for those taking the GCSE. The Humanities Hub has purpose-built classrooms and smaller Harkness rooms for A-level seminars, giving discussion a physical place in the school day.
Development on the Chapel Road campus has added laboratories, computer rooms, a sports hall, theatre, library, performing arts centre and the Dwight Sixth Form Centre. These facilities sit alongside a preparatory school, senior years and boarding, rather than dividing the school into separate sites or phases.
Sixth Formers can pursue A levels across sciences, arts, humanities and technical subjects, with Level 3 Criminology and BTEC Sport also available alongside other qualifications. Specialist rooms, practical courses and a joined-up campus give the later years a contemporary counterpart to the school’s long civic history.
