Overview

Wetherby Senior School combines a central-London boys' education with a deliberately staged journey from Year 7 to Sixth Form. Music is built into the beginning of that journey: every Year 7 pupil learns a brass or string instrument, supported by professional musicians, before the Middle School years turn towards GCSE choices and the Sixth Form moves to three A levels and an Extended Project Qualification.

The school is a day school for boys aged 11 to 18, with no boarding, on Marylebone Lane. Its 11-to-18 model is structured around Lower School, Middle School and Sixth Form rather than an all-through arrangement, allowing the senior stages to have their own academic and pastoral rhythm.

Life outside lessons is unusually organised around the five Tribs, named after London's hidden rivers: Effra, Fleet, Ravensbourne, Tyburn and Walbrook. Those groups bring pupils across year groups together through music, drama, sport and debating. Clubs, instrumental tuition, at least three drama productions each year and compulsory sport add a busy co-curricular programme, while form tutors, a wellbeing team and counselling form part of day-to-day support.

The main entry points are 11+, 13+ and 16+, with occasional vacancies in Years 8 to 10. The 11+ assessment covers English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning; interviews follow for candidates progressing through the process. At 16+, applicants attend an assessment day with examinations and interview. The result is a compact boys' senior school where the London setting, music at the outset and Trib system give each stage a recognisable character.
