Collingham

Small classes are the defining feature of Collingham's sixth-form and GCSE model. Founded in 1975, the college serves students aged 13 to 19 across two Kensington sites, with a GCSE department on Young Street and an A level department on Collingham Gardens. Around 150 students form a compact community, and many continue from GCSE into A levels.

Teaching is shaped around the student rather than a single timetable. The average class has five students, A level groups are capped at eight and GCSE groups at nine. Subject specialists use discussion, participation and individual support, while A level students can combine subjects, examination boards or requirements linked to an international destination.

The two sites have their own character: the Sixth Form occupies an Arts and Crafts townhouse, while GCSE teaching takes place in a historic former home. Museums and academic institutions are close by, and college life includes excursions, personal tutoring and pastoral support. There is no uniform, which adds to the feel of a small academic college rather than a conventional school campus.

Applications are direct and continue through the year. A family normally begins with an enquiry, followed by a tour and interview with the Principal or Vice Principal; current information and predicted grades may be considered. The college can accommodate mid-year entry and retakes, with the assessment centred on whether the course and the student are a workable match.
