Overview

Frances Mary Buss founded North London Collegiate School in 1850 in her family home in Camden Town. After several moves through Camden, the school settled at Canons in 1940, where a long tradition of girls' education now supports a distinctly expansive academic life. Its senior years combine intellectual range with many ways for pupils to pursue a question, interest or emerging talent.

Years 7 to 9 bring English, mathematics, science, engineering and technology together with French, Latin, geography, history, religious studies, drama, art and design, computing, PE and PSHE. In the Sixth Form, students can choose between the International Baccalaureate Diploma and a tailored A-Level route, with small classes and built-in enrichment shaping the post-16 experience.

More than 250 clubs and societies range from philosophy, debate and robotics to music, sport, writing and service. Over 200 visiting speakers add contact with ideas and professions beyond the timetable. Sixth Form students can lead one of around 50 Senior Societies, while Surge and Brainwaves connect academic enquiry with entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary work.

Entry points are 4+, 7+, 11+ and 16+, with visits and open events involving staff, pupils and subject specialists. The senior route is girls-only, day-based and continues to Sixth Form, where both A-Level and IB study are available. The scale of the co-curriculum means that academic choice remains a visible part of everyday life rather than a narrow set of options.
