Overview
Founded in Highgate in 1885 by Emily and Matilda Sharpe and the Reverend Robert Spears, Channing began with a Unitarian aim: to give girls a first-class education. It is now a girls’ day school for ages 4 to 18, closely tied to its Highgate community.
Channing describes its philosophy through free thinking, acceptance and inclusivity, with pupils encouraged to be “10% braver”. The senior curriculum includes Philosophy and Latin from Year 7, science, modern languages and personal development covering citizenship, careers and wellbeing. Extension work adds academic challenge.
In the Sixth Form, students choose from a broad curriculum and develop independent research through Springboard to the Future. Careers guidance, Channing Lectures, the EPQ, UCAS and Oxbridge support, and work experience connect study with life after school.
