Overview

Plymouth College brings its prep and senior pupils together at Ford Park in Plymouth, with a history reaching back to 1877. It became independent in 1976, admitted girls to the Sixth Form that year, became fully co-educational in 1995 and merged with St Dunstan's Abbey School in 2004. In 2021 the prep school joined the senior school at Ford Park, bringing the different stages together on one campus.

The senior school covers Years 7 to 11. Key Stage 3 offers breadth before pupils move into GCSE and IGCSE study, with small classes and a pre-Sixth Form course for international pupils. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Ten Tors, the River Dart Source to Sea, the Combined Cadet Force, music, drama, art and design technology sit alongside academic work. The school's swimming programme is a particularly visible strand, with a record of producing Olympic and world champions.

Sixth Form students usually take three A levels, with a Sports Baccalaureate available as an alternative vocational pathway. The EPQ, university guidance, careers support and a broad co-curricular programme extend that study into future planning. Plymouth College is co-educational from the early years through Sixth Form, offers day and boarding places, and handles entry through its Ford Park admissions team.
