Overview

Lancing College grew from St Mary's School in Shoreham, founded in 1847, and Nathaniel Woodard's foundation of 1848. Its chapel and surrounding buildings carry that history into a co-educational community for ages 13 to 18. Girls entered the Sixth Form in 1970, and the present offer combines boarding with day places.

The curriculum places examined subjects beside the Lancing College Diploma and co-curricular learning. In History, the Third Form studies the First World War and inter-war Europe before Edexcel GCSE; Sixth Form pupils choose medieval or modern A-level pathways, supported by seminars and university preparation. Weekly time is set aside for co-curricular activity.

More than 120 clubs range across sport, music, drama, CCF, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, equestrian activity, farm work and outreach. Boarding houses are single-sex, with older pupils mentoring younger ones and structured evenings and weekends. Admissions are direct to an academically selective boarding and day route, with visits, tours, international entry at the Third, Fourth and Sixth Forms when places are available, and a Pre-Sixth Form GCSE programme.
