Overview

Rossall's story began in 1844, when the Reverend St Vincent Beechey opened the Northern Church of England Boarding School with 70 boys. Its first home was Rossall Hall, and girls joined in the 1970s; the present community now brings together nursery, preparatory, senior and sixth-form education. Boarding is therefore part of the institution's history as well as a current choice.

The senior curriculum combines academic subjects with specialist opportunities in sport, performing arts, music, astronomy, design and technology. Sixth-form students can follow A levels, the International Baccalaureate or BTEC routes, while football, golf, piano and dance academies extend specialist coaching beyond ordinary lessons.

Nine houses organise the residential community, including junior provision and senior houses for boys and girls. Day pupils join the house system, and weekly, flexi and activity boarding give families several ways to use the residential side. The arrangement supports study, sport and activities without making full boarding the only route into school life.

Senior entry includes registration, a visit, assessment and interview. Year 7 and Year 9 applicants sit examinations in English, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning; other year groups use placement tests and interviews. Day and boarding applications are both accepted, with scholarship and bursary information available for families considering the different routes.
