Rugby School

Rugby School's 1567 foundation through the will of Lawrence Sheriff gives its town an unusually long educational thread. Girls joined in 1975, and the present co-educational community brings day pupils and boarders into the same house system. Entry is focused on the senior years, with a Sixth Form that keeps two substantial academic routes open.

Pupils joining at 13+ begin with a broad Year 9 programme before choosing GCSE subjects. At Sixth Form, A levels sit beside the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Music, performing arts, sport, service and student-led clubs keep the academic timetable connected to creative, physical and civic activity.

Full boarding is part of the model rather than a weekly or flexi arrangement. Houses are home to around 50 pupils, who eat and complete prep there as well as joining house activities, tutoring and weekend events. Current girls' and boys' house lists include a girls' Sixth Form house, showing how the residential structure changes with age.

Admissions information covers 13+ and 16+ entry. Year 6 candidates for 13+ complete English, mathematics, verbal-reasoning and non-verbal-reasoning tests, an interview and group activities. At 16+, day and boarding applicants take English, mathematics and a chosen-subject assessment, online cognitive assessments and an interview. Scholarship awards can open access to means-tested bursary support.
