Overview

Queenswood moved from Clapham to Hertfordshire in 1925, a change that gave its long-established girls' community the setting it still occupies. Founded in 1894, it brings day and boarding pupils together from age 11 to Sixth Form. Academic ambition, a comparatively small residential community and individual attention are all part of the character of the place.

Science, mathematics, humanities, languages and the arts form the academic core. The personalised learning team works alongside class teachers and can provide one-to-one teaching, while scholarship enrichment gives pupils who need greater stretch an additional route. Support is integrated with ordinary lessons rather than treated as a separate track.

More than 180 lunchtime and after-school activities include Code Club, cricket, Ancient Greek, Eco-Warriors, music, drama, dance and sport. Boarding brings house staff, pastoral care and time beyond lessons into the rhythm of the week, while day pupils take part in the same clubs, houses and wider community life.
