Kingham Hill School

Kingham Hill's identity began with a practical act of care. Charles Edward Baring Young established the school in 1886 for boys who needed boarding, creating a community with its own farm, chapel, workshops, sanatorium and houses. That history still gives the school a distinctive sense of place, while its move into the Dean Close Foundation in 2025 marks a new chapter for the co-educational community.

Pupils aged 11 to 18 follow a senior curriculum that moves from a broad Lower School foundation into GCSEs and then a flexible Sixth Form. Alongside A levels, students can take BTEC or CTEC courses and complete the Extended Project Qualification. The American Program adds a US high-school diploma and Advanced Placement courses, with support for SATs, college essays and university applications.

Day pupils and boarders share ten houses, and boarding life continues beyond lessons through Saturday visits, workshops, qualifications and community-service opportunities. That mixture of ordinary school routines and residential life is central to the experience: pupils can belong to a close house community while also learning alongside UK and international students.

Kingham Hill is a direct-entry school with day, weekly-boarding and full-boarding places. Families can arrange a visit, speak with the school and register for a place, with the relevant route depending on the pupil's age and intended pattern of attendance. The combination of a small historic setting, several senior academic routes and a substantial boarding offer gives the school a character of its own.
