Liberal scholarship has been part of University College School's identity since 1830, when it was established by University College London. After separating from UCL in 1907, the Senior School moved to the Frognal site in Hampstead. The foundation now combines a boys' Senior School with a co-educational Sixth Form.
The UCS Foundation brings together a Pre-Prep, Junior Branch and Senior School. Boys join the Senior School from 11 to 18, while girls enter the mixed Sixth Form in Year 12. That arrangement gives the community a particular shape: a long-established boys' senior route alongside a post-16 phase that widens the intake.
Intellectual curiosity, breadth of study and independence of mind sit at the centre of academic life. Music, drama, sport, clubs, societies and enrichment run alongside classroom work, while the West Hampstead games fields provide space for team sport and outdoor activity.
Performances, competitions, trips and public-facing projects connect the senior years with life beyond lessons. Frognal teaching facilities, West Hampstead sports provision and the separate junior foundation support a London day-school experience that combines liberal tradition with a deliberately co-educational Sixth Form.
