At a glance
King Edward's School has been part of Bath's educational life since 1552, and its present-day programme keeps that long history in active use. It is a co-educational day school from early years to Sixth Form, with a broad senior curriculum, specialist facilities and a co-curricular programme that gives pupils many ways to test ideas, perform, compete and serve.
In Years 7 and 8, pupils study a wide range of subjects before making later GCSE or iGCSE choices. Languages, Latin, Greek, history, computer science, drama, music, design and technology and physical education all feature in the senior route. Sixth Form students normally begin with four subjects, then continue with three, alongside Learning for Life, higher-education guidance and the option of an Extended Project Qualification.
Creative writing, debating, Model United Nations, music, drama and sport sit alongside the Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Rose drama centre, performance work with Bath Philharmonia, and links with Bath Rugby Academy and the England Hockey Academy connect school activities with serious practice. Coding, esports, F1 in Schools and the Cipher Challenge add newer forms of challenge.
Admissions are school-led at several points, including Nursery and Reception, junior entry, Year 7 and Year 12. Senior applicants complete English, mathematics and verbal-reasoning assessments alongside interviews, reports and references; talent awards are available in art, drama, music and sport. Sixth Form applicants complete academic checks and interviews, while means-tested bursaries are available. There is no boarding route.
