Stowe School

Stowe School is based at Stowe, near Buckingham, in the house and grounds that give the school its setting. It opened in 1923 with J. F. Roxburgh as founding headmaster. His stated vision combined traditional education with liberal learning and placed the school in the setting of Stowe House. The registered school is mixed, has boarding provision and includes a Sixth Form.

Academic life is organised through faculties for arts and culture, English, humanities, languages, science and social sciences. The school also lists tutorials, academic support, extension work, clubs, societies and the library within its academic offer. Admissions pages set out entry at 13+, 14+ and 16+, giving both the senior school and Sixth Form defined joining points.

Houses are central to life outside lessons. Stowe lists nine boys' Houses, six girls' Houses and a girls' Sixth Form House, with around sixty pupils in each House. Houseparents are supported by their families and staff teams; matrons and the medical centre support pupils' health and wellbeing. That structure gives boarding, flexi and day pupils an established smaller community within the school.

Sport is available each afternoon at participation and performance levels, with the school encouraging pupils to try more than one activity. Stowe's original mansion, the House communities and the continuing use of its historic site bring together the academic, residential and co-curricular parts of a senior school that has remained at Stowe since its foundation.
