Bablake School

Bablake’s roots reach back to a choir school associated with St John’s Church. Coventry School Foundation dates its origins to 1364, records Thomas Wheatley’s 1563 endowment, moved to independence in 1945 and admitted girls from 1975. The senior school now forms part of a co-educational foundation educating pupils from 3 to 18 across linked settings, with that civic and charitable history still visible in its identity.

Years 7 to 9 follow the National Curriculum with increasing choice in languages and creative subjects. Years 10 and 11 lead to GCSEs or IGCSEs, with English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and two sciences compulsory in the senior outline. The 2025 results page records a 100% GCSE pass rate, 60% of grades at 7 to 9 and a 98% A-level pass rate, giving the academic route a clear outcomes focus alongside its breadth.

Life beyond lessons is substantial and closely connected to the curriculum. Competitive sport, house matches, drama productions, music, clubs, leadership, expeditions and academic clinics sit alongside facilities including a sports hall, swimming pool, gym, dance studio, climbing wall, courts, astroturf pitches and extensive playing fields. The Foundation’s Pre-Prep and Junior sites extend the wider journey with early-years provision, Forest School and specialist spaces.

Entry is direct and differs by stage. The 11+ route uses English Comprehension, English Composition and Mathematics papers, with the application deadline normally 31 October and the examination in November. Sixth-form offers normally require five Grade 6 or equivalent passes and an interview. Year 7 academic, music and art awards, means-tested bursaries and consideration of access arrangements complete the senior-school admissions picture.
