Overview

Badminton School was founded in 1858, when Miriam Badock set out to give girls educational opportunities comparable with those available to their brothers. It moved to its present Bristol site in 1924 and now welcomes girls of all faiths and none from age 3 to 19. The school's identity is therefore rooted in girls' education, but its current rhythm is equally shaped by the balance between day pupils and boarders.

More than half of pupils are day girls, while full, weekly and occasional boarding are available, including boarding for overseas pupils from Year 4. Boarding continues through Senior School and Sixth Form and connects an international community spanning almost 20 countries. That combination creates a school day that can be local and home-based or residential, depending on the pupil and phase.

The Westbury-on-Trym campus includes a Sports Centre, 25-metre indoor pool, full-size Astro hockey pitch, tennis and netball courts, Creative Arts Centre and boarding accommodation. Prep, Years 7 and 8, Years 9 and 10, and Sixth Form each have a separate admissions route, with academic, art, sport, music and drama awards available.

For Year 7 and Year 8 entry in September 2027, the application deadline is 9 December 2026. Assessments include an interview, current-school reference, English paper, online mathematics assessment and Cognitive Reasoning assessment. Overseas applicants who cannot travel for assessment arrange this through a partner agent, and international boarders may need a UK guardian.
