Mill Hill School Foundation

Mill Hill began in 1807, when non-conformist merchants and ministers opened a school in Ridgeway House with 62 pupils. Girls joined the Sixth Form in 1975 and full co-education followed in 1997. That history now leads into a mixed provision from age 3 to 19, with a co-educational senior school for ages 13 to 18 and day, weekly-boarding and full-boarding choices.

GCSE and A-level study are accompanied by subject societies, lectures, competitions, an Extended Project Qualification and an annual Enrichment Week. More than 400 clubs and activities extend the week, with drama, music, CCF, debating, community action and sport among the named examples. The scale gives pupils many ways to build a life beyond the examination timetable.

The principal senior entry points are 13+ for Year 9 and 16+ for the Lower Sixth, with occasional 14+ places. Day, weekly and full boarding are available to domestic and overseas pupils. A deferred-entry pathway supports children who remain at their prep school until the end of Year 8, so age, boarding choice and timing all shape the application route.

Mill Hill's character therefore comes from the meeting of a non-conformist foundation, a long move into co-education and an unusually broad programme outside lessons. The senior experience can be configured around day or boarding life, while the academic and enrichment offer gives pupils room to pursue both formal qualifications and sustained interests.
