Pocklington School

Pocklington School's story reaches back to 1514, when John Dolman established a guild and school in the East Yorkshire town. The senior school remains on West Green, alongside the prep provision, and the foundation now combines co-educational day education with boarding from age 9. Four boarding houses, the Tom Stoppard Theatre and extensive sports facilities give the campus a character that extends well beyond the classroom.

The academic route changes with age. Lower School pupils encounter a wide range of subjects before Middle School brings a core programme together with options. In Sixth Form, students can build programmes from academic and vocational subjects. Courage, truth and trust provide the values framework, with a Christian foundation that welcomes families from all faiths and none.

Sport, creative work and outreach add movement to the academic week, while boarding brings international pupils and UK pupils into the same residential community. Short-term boarding and English as an additional language support are available for international students, making the school capable of serving families who need either a full school journey or a defined period of residential study.

Senior entry at 11 normally involves separate English and mathematics papers, usually held in January. Sixth Form applicants do not take an entrance examination but need to meet the relevant GCSE threshold. Admissions are handled directly from the West Green campus, with the stage of entry determining the assessment, academic route and boarding arrangements that apply.
