Shebbear College

Six values give Shebbear College a clear starting point: compassion, courage, courtesy, curiosity, creativity and confidence. That Methodist character sits alongside day and boarding provision from the early years through senior and post-16 study. Learning reaches beyond lessons, with the surrounding Devon countryside forming part of the educational setting.

The National Curriculum provides a foundation, then teaching broadens around pupils' abilities and interests. Shebbear is non-selective: senior assessment establishes a pupil's academic level and whether the mainstream curriculum can be accessed, rather than creating a pass-or-fail entrance barrier. Academic work sits beside sport, creative activity and the development of confidence in learning.

The 360@Sheb programme includes more than 70 clubs across the year, spanning outdoor learning, sport, creative arts and other interests. Boarding begins at age eight, with full, weekly and flexi options in Ruddle and Pollard houses. Older pupils and boarders can therefore take part in the wider life of the community in different ways.

Admissions usually begin with a visit and a taster day. Sixth-form entry includes a meeting with the head and relevant subject staff, GCSE results and a reference from the current school; international pupils are also welcomed. Applications can be considered at different stages of the school year when places are available.
