Founded by Henry VIII in 1541, The King's School, Gloucester remains one of the cathedral schools, with daily chapel in Gloucester Cathedral at the heart of its identity. Little King's, the Junior School and the Senior School form a co-educational day community from ages 3 to 18, with small classes and a historic setting. There is no boarding.
Languages, Classics and separately taught sciences are joined by discussion-based teaching, personalised tuition and Learning Skills support. Pupils begin classical study with Latin or Classical Civilisation, and can continue with Latin, Classical Civilisation or Greek through A Level. Cross-curricular projects and visits extend the classroom, including History work at Heritage Tours, Tintern Abbey and Berlin.
Sport, music and drama sit within the wider co-curricular programme. Senior entry is 11+ into Year 7, 13+ into Year 9 or Sixth Form, with some later places. Year 7 and Year 9 candidates sit mathematics, English and aptitude papers, bring schoolwork, attend interview and take part in a taster day. The process combines written assessment with a chance to experience the school day.
