Slough’s four consortium grammars

Slough Council lists the four consortium grammar schools as administering their own appeals. Its general appeal form or council-run school deadline should not be assumed to apply to them.

Herschel Grammar School

Use Herschel’s current appeal instructions and the admission policy for your child’s entry year.

Langley Grammar School

Keep Langley’s refusal, policy and appeal pack together. Another consortium school’s deadline is not a substitute.

St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School

Read the exact eligibility and oversubscription criteria, including any information the policy requires to establish the child’s category.

Upton Court Grammar School

Submit through the school’s stated appeal route and record its lodging and evidence deadlines separately.

The Slough score guide explains qualification versus allocation. A shared test does not merge the school applications or appeals. If you appeal to more than one school, adapt the case to each refusal and policy.

Reading School and Kendrick

These are separate admission routes from the Slough consortium. The relevant result, academic requirement and school policy must be checked for each child’s application.

Sharing an administrative service does not make these one appeal. The independent panel considers the named school’s refusal and the child’s case for admission.

Finding the correct appeal deadline

The Reading School, Kendrick and Reading Council pages checked on 28 September 2026 still identify their detailed Year 7 appeal timetable as September 2026 entry. Do not treat the displayed 30 March 2026 deadline as a 2027 date.

For September 2027 entry, take the deadline from the updated appeal pack or refusal communication. If the correct pack is not yet available, ask the school or its administrator for the current instructions. A 2027 admissions policy and a 2026 appeal timetable can appear on the same website.

• Check the school name and entry year at the top of the form and timetable.
• Confirm the administrator: the Slough grammar’s own route or the service directed by the Reading school.
• Record the evidence deadline too. It may be different from the deadline for lodging the appeal.
• Keep submission confirmation and retain the exact documents sent.

Do not postpone lodging an appeal merely because you are waiting for an answer to an informal enquiry. Ask the administrator how to handle missing supporting information within the published process.

What to keep for your appeal

The refusal tells you whether qualification, oversubscription or another application issue is involved. Under the DfE guidance, the evidence needed for academic suitability differs from the reasons for admitting a qualified child to a school that says it is full.

1. The result for the correct school routeKeep the full result and any further-stage communication. Avoid mixing Slough, Reading School and Kendrick test records.
2. The application and refusalSave the CAF receipt, decision and relevant correspondence. If the school was not named, ask how to make an application before assuming a refusal exists.
3. The admission policy and supporting recordsIdentify the rule in dispute or the evidence of academic suitability. For school-specific reasons, explain the provision your child needs and why it matters.
