Belong, Commit and Thrive are the three ideas around which Turning Point Academy builds re-engagement with education. The specialist setting serves co-educational pupils aged 7 to 16, including autistic young people and others experiencing anxiety, ADHD, sensory differences or social communication challenges.
The curriculum has three connected strands. Core study includes English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and physical education; creative options include art and design, food technology, music, construction, animal care, photography and e-sports. The Life curriculum covers PSHE, RSE, employability, wellbeing, outdoor skills and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Prior attainment and baseline assessment establish a starting point, with progress reviewed termly. Pupils may work towards GCSEs, BTECs, entry-level and functional skills courses, or technical awards at Levels 1 and 2. Higher-level GCSE study remains possible where appropriate, alongside practical routes towards further education, training, employment or independence.
A multidisciplinary team supports individual timetables and transitions. The Hants Lane setting in Ormskirk is organised around emotional safety, personalised teaching and preparation for adulthood. No boarding or Sixth Form is attached to this route, which keeps its attention on re-engagement and the next practical step.
