A two-hour Main Lesson is the daily signature of The St Michael Steiner School. One subject is explored deeply over a sequence of weeks, allowing writing, mathematics, history, geography and science to meet age-related themes rather than appearing as disconnected units. Founded in 2001 by teachers with London experience, the community follows Waldorf education while developing a modern urban curriculum.
Academic, artistic and practical work share the week. Languages, music, painting, movement, handwork, gardening, woodwork and sport sit alongside the Main Lesson, creating an active and multi-sensory education. Teachers trained in Steiner Waldorf education shape their teaching around the individual class, with imagination, practical skill and independent thinking given room beside subject knowledge.
High School students work towards the New Zealand Certificate of Steiner Education through Levels 1, 2 and 3. Supported assessments, presentations, portfolios, essays, scientific work and practical projects keep the qualification connected to creative and applied learning, while preparing students for higher education and other choices after Class 12.
Kindergarten, Lower School and High School each have a separate application route, with forms, supporting reports where requested and an interview. The co-educational day community extends from the early years to Class 12 in Hanworth Park. Its coherence comes from placing academic study, art and practical work in the same daily rhythm rather than treating them as separate strands.
