St Margaret's School

A continuous girls' education from the early years to GCSE gives St Margaret's School its shape. Infant, Junior and Senior stages sit within a small community, with principal entry points at Reception, Year 3 and Year 7. There is no Sixth Form or boarding provision, so the experience is concentrated on the years from four to 16 and on the transition from foundational learning to a mature senior curriculum.

In the Junior School, half-term themes and big questions bring discussion, practical work and outdoor learning into English, mathematics and science. Pupils are encouraged to connect subjects and become more independent as they approach the Senior School. From Year 7, English Language and Literature, mathematics and triple science are joined by art, drama, geography, history, music and modern languages, with sport, performing arts, clubs and expeditions extending learning beyond lessons.

Pastoral and learning support are part of that progression. Screening for learning needs takes place on entry, followed by ongoing SEND provision where required. The setting in Hampstead, within the wider London community, is useful context for a school whose scale allows the Infant, Junior and Senior years to remain closely connected rather than operating as separate institutions.

Admissions are selective and use age-appropriate assessment, school reports, references and, where relevant, interview. Reception and Year 3 assessments include English and mathematics; Year 7 entry uses the London 11+ Consortium assessment. Offers also take a current-school reference and evidence of academic potential into account, fitting an education built around closely connected stages.
