Walter Higby founded St John's in 1928, and the Osen family's ownership since 1982 gives the Billericay setting a distinctly family-run character. The Green Building marks that later history, while a continuous route from Kindergarten through Prep and Senior School keeps the community together from the early years to age 16.
Small classes shape the academic experience. English and mathematics are set where appropriate in the junior years, with specialist teaching in music, PE, computing, French, art and Spanish. The senior curriculum expands through science, languages, humanities, art, drama, food and nutrition, business studies and physical education, with GCSE choices responding to demand.
Practical and creative work starts early: Reception includes weekly swimming, forest school, PE, music and computing with specialist teachers.
