Founded in 1972 for Japanese families living and working abroad, it retains a Christian foundation and an ambition to develop thoughtful, internationally minded young people. Pupils live and learn together rather than treating boarding as an arrangement separate from education.
Teaching follows the Japanese national curriculum, with English Communication taught by British teachers across the school. English-taught science, IGCSE science in the secondary years and history for the relevant upper-school course add specific bridges between the Japanese programme and the wider setting. Homerooms, shared meals and evening routines give the community a strong daily structure.
Local exchanges, host-family opportunities and visits around Britain extend the English-language experience beyond lessons. Separate middle- and upper-school entrance routes cover transfer as well as Japan- and UK-based examinations, so the route into the school reflects its international community and the different stages of study.
